| Over 200 hundred sets of eyes stared at me as I spoke to them. This past weekend I took a few of my assistant instructors and did a show for a good friend of mine Ray Howell. Ray was the Man of the Year for Outdoor Life Magazine last year and now he’s using his fame to help kids who are not so fortunate. It’s a great mission
A few weeks ago in our Bible study Ray and I talked and I told him that I could add to the energy at one of his Kicking Bear camps for kids. He agreed and I planned for the date.
Just as we got to the campsite in Lewiston, MN this past weekend I watched as kids were engaged in shooting arrows, playing dodge and kick ball and generally keeping themselves busy. Ray’s Kicking Bear program is all about connecting kids with the out of doors and teaching them how to be active and take good care of themselves.
The 6th sense that I’m talking about is something that all kids have. It’s the sense of knowing that they should be moving. I’m talking about moving like these kids were at Ray’s camp. They were out in the sun running, jumping, and throwing their bodies in all directions. Kids of all sizes and shapes were doing it and having a great time.
All kids would move if given the chance. Here’s the sad part. Some kids aren’t around adults and other kids who continue to nurture their need to move. Movement can either be fostered and grown or it can be squashed. It’s sad to see people who have had their inner desire for movement squashed by inactivity, overeating, or plain old laziness.
My troop and I went on to do a Karate demonstration for the kids and families at Ray’s event and then we also took them through a 12pt part of a Combat Endurance Training workout. We had a few different messages as we worked with the kids. They were:
- Be active
- Learn new things
- Don’t be afraid to make mistakes
- Make good choices
The kids and families loved what we did. Many told us that they could not believe how the kids all sat still and listened or paid close attention as we took them through the exercises. I told them that it didn’t surprise me. It’s what I expect when I work with kids. It’s very simple. I tell them that their job is to look and listen and do their best. It’s always worked. Just goes to show that kids are great at following directions if only the leader tells them what to expect.
We had a great time and we touched many young lives this weekend. We will be doing a presentation this weekend for our local Kids Museum and next weekend I’m planning to do another show for Ray’s Kids in another town. I look forward to feeling their energy.

P.S. The kids and parents that we showed the Combat Endurance Training program to were excited. I’m going to share a few quick testimonials with you from people who have used my exercise program Here they are.
“The workouts are amazing and I am getting great results. These workouts are great if you are 6 or 60, they are designed for whatever your goals and time limits are. I mean come on who doesn’t have 9 minutes to get in the best shape of your life ! I own all the dvds and the cds and about to get the latest advanced dvd. All I can say is buy this”

“After six weeks of Combat Endurance Training, I had my annual physical. My lipid panel had changed dramatically. Total cholesterol well below 200 with LDL <110 and HDL >50. Blood pressure 120/70. I had not seen these numbers since my 30s and I am now in my latter 50s. I lost 12 pounds and my physician said “whatever you are doing, keep doing it.” I can only point to Combat Endurance Training as the reason why these measures have changed. Since then, I have continued to lose weight and my inner core strength has grown.”
