Shake My Head In Disbelief February 25th, 2010
Sometimes you see and hear about things that just make you wonder. Over the past few days I’ve come upon some things that made me want to just shake my head and shake somebody.
Here’s a few good rants for you. See whether you agree or disagree.
As you know I’ve spent the last 32 years working with and helping children become physically and mentally stronger and achieve their potential.
I’ve gotta tell you some of these kids face some real uphill battles.
When I watch how kids interact with each other and with authority figures. I can usually tell within the first few minutes what kind of a young person he/she is. You can tell by how they treat their friends, by how they respond to authority, and whether or not they listen and pay attention when people talk to them.
All of the things I look for are practices that have been taught to them by an adult, usually a parent or parents.
It’s hard enough to be a kid. It’s important that they get good information and proper guidance. Some of these kids will struggle forever because of the downright stupid guidance they are getting.
Here’s some examples:
- When a child is doing something that he/she should not be doing, someone please take notice and correct it. Do not be afraid to hurt the child’s feelings. You’ll be hurting much more than that if a child is left to do whatever he/she wants until they are adults and then get absolutely crushed when the real world finally hits them over the head.
- If a child has a long history of not paying attention and just can’t seem to get the information right no matter how many times it’s explained, it might be time to have the child tested for some type of learning challenge. Sure none of us want to feel that our kids might have learning difficulties, but how fare is it to them if they do and we don’t take steps to help them cure the issue.
Kids do not know how to act unless they are taught. Parenting is not a spectator sport. It’s an all the time, get involved and help your kids occupation Rudeness, lack of respect, inappropriate behavior, and entitlement. All of these are things that must be nipped in the bud and not tolerated.
I feel for teachers today.
Many of these people have chosen their profession because they love kids and want to teach them things that will change their lives. It’s a big time sacrifice and the good teachers are to be commended.
So why are so many teachers frustrated and why do many choose to find other fields of work after short times on the job.
What would happen if government would mind their own business and not create ridiculous rules and paperwork for teachers to live up to. Case in point
No Child Left Behind.
Whose bright idea was this. Do you know that we are graduating kids from our high schools who can’t read? How does that qualify as not being left behind. Seems to me that beefing up our graduating statistics is more important than giving kids an education.
How about keeping lawyers off of the playground and make some laws to stop some of them from running around looking for ridiculous cases to try that only jam up our legal system and spend money foolishly
Case in point. Not so long ago I read a news story that told about one set of parents who was taking a 5 year old child to court because that 5 year old had gotten in a fist fight with theirs.
Here’s what should happen. Case comes to court. Judge hears that it’s parents and a lawyer of one 5 year old taking another 5 year old to court for a fight on the playground and judge says:
“This is too ridiculous to try and by the way you stupid parents and stupid lawyer will also be fined $xxxxx for even bringing this in front of me.”
There’s a thought. Hold someone accountable for being stupid and spreading their stupidity around the town.
We live in a strange world. It’s a world where many kids do not respect authority. It’s a world where lack of common sense is common place. It’s a world where people are restricted from doing their best jobs because there are too many dumb rules and regulations stopping them from doing what’s right. It’s a world where some people are afraid to do or say what’s right because they are afraid that they might upset someone who in turn will bring them unneeded legal pains.
The cure for all of this insanity seems simple:
- Say or do something if there’s a wrong being done. Speak up. Take action
- Teach kids how to do the right things by setting an example
- Make laws that make sense
- Reward creativity and resourcefulness and frown on entitlement and stupidity
It’s high time we start making sense and helping our kids and our world come back to the basics.
Common sense makes good sense even though it may not be common. We need a bunch more of it.

The Joy of the World December 11th, 2009
We’re surrounded by information. Some good. Some not so good.
It’s exciting to know that we can learn almost anything that we want by doing some research and spending a little bit of time and effort.
Because there is so much information out there it’s important not to spend all of one’s time just finding information. It’s in implementing the information that one grows.
Start doing. It’s the key.
I’ve just talked about the importance of gathering some information on your own. Doing some personal research.
It’s a good part of your Become A More Educated Person strategy.
It’s also good to spend time with others and not just yourself. It’s good to have some type of social interaction.
How about this? You can kill two birds with one stone. Spend time with others and gather valuable information in the process.
Develop a Mastermind group.
4-7 guys/gals meeting 1-2 times per month to discuss ideas that you’re all interested in.
It’s exciting to see the ideas that fly around the room when everyone just lets loose and kicks in the old idea generator.
It’s been said that you become like the 5 closest people that you hang around.
Whether your interested in fitness, business, Internet marketing, or anything else. Spend some time with those who have the same interests and you’ll be astonished at what you can learn that will help you develop your existing skills more and even develop some new ones.
Good luck in your journey.

An Ounce Of Prevention January 29th, 2009
There’s a lot of things that can be prevented. All of us could sit down and take a moment to think back and find things that we wish we could have done differently. We’d want a do over to make it right.
A while back I decided to buy a 4 plex. My wife said, “don’t do it” I replied, “it’s not a problem and it will be easy.” So I went ahead and did it anyway.
It was a mess.
People didn’t pay their rent. One woman wrecked the apartment and when I finally had to have her leave I went in and took out 15 huge bags of garbage that were spread all over everything. This was with 2 little babies living in the apartment.
My wife was good about it after I learned my lesson, but I know that she wanted to give me a big TOLD YOU SO.
Live and learn. What else could I do.
Here’s a few more examples of things that qualify as do-overs:
Many people in the U.S. live a sedentary life style. They don’t exercise, eat the wrong foods, and in general don’t do anything to stay or become healthy.
End result- diabetes, heart disease, terrible energy levels, and poor quality of life.
Don’t these people know what can happen if you don’t take care of yourself. Do they think that they will get some kind of pass, a do not go to jail card. This is not Monopoly. It’s the real deal.
When all is said and done they wish they would have done it differently. They wish they had a do over card.
How about this? Many families in this country want the American dream. They want a house of their own. It’s a great goal to work towards.
They’re not financially ready to own a home because they don’t have any savings put away for a rainy day and if they would run into something bad in their lives they have nothing stored up for a rainy day.
They go out and find a lending institution who will give them a loan, even though the lender knows it’s a bad risk.
No problem…
Once the loan is made and the buyer has their home, the lender has the money and is free and clear.
Nothing to worry about because crooks like that aren’t held accountable by the law and by our government.
I’ve got my own theory about what should be done to people that take advantage of others like that.
Instead, we give them more money to screw more people that can’t afford homes but want them.
Big do over for the unfortunate person who wanted the American dream.
So what’s the lesson for today.
I believe that it’s TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF, physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially.
Be patient and wait until you have the skills and the resources to do what you want.
Watch out for greedy B——S who have no respect or dignity.

Breaking News September 18th, 2008
Today I opened the newspaper and one of the feature stories was about our government coming to the rescue of the huge insurer AIG. Seems that the guys on the hill decided that they were going to fire up the old money printing machine and give the guys at AIG 85 billion clams. You heard me right, 85 billion.
Seems as if things are a bit tight at AIG these days. Things seem to be tight all around. To anyone who owns their own business or any family in general I’m sure that you’ve all had your times. My feeling is that tough times just make us better and force us to figure out better plans of action. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could have the government come riding in on their shining horse and bail you out if things get a bit tough. I didn’t realize that our government was in the business of bailing out companies that don’t manage their business right. Thanks but no thanks guys, I’d rather not have you coming in to help. I’ll figure it out for myself.
We’re all in charge of our own business. We need to take care of ourselves financially, physically, mentally, emotionally and otherwise. Those of us who have figured out a system for taking care of our needs and the needs of those close to us are better off for it.
Finding a way to take care of all of these needs can only help us in the long run. We try new things and sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. Either way the search teaches us something. If nothing else it makes us continue to search for things that will get us going in the right direction.
Much of the searching that I have done in my business has been to help kids and adults live healthier, stronger lives. Students in my karate schools and those in my Combat fitness classes have gained physical skills, life lessons, and improved physical and mental fitness. I like the combination of skills that my staff and I bring to the table.
The many who have benefited from our training have found that the effort to become physically fit has brought benefits in many areas of their lives. It’s a continuous commitment to staying healthy that makes a permanent and worthwhile difference. You can learn some of these same skills by going to www.CombatEnduranceTraining.com and getting your own helping of health and fitness.
I may not be the same fairy godmother that AIG has but I know that what I can give you can bring a smile to your face and add bunches of energy and strength to your daily routine.
