Little Things (Big Difference) March 20th, 2009
Have you ever heard someone say, “I’ve done that before and it didn’t work for me” ?
In most cases if people try something and it doesn’t work they often times give up.
One short of expected result does not mean that a technique or program is not good.
There are so many variables that can affect an outcome. It’s a mistake to believe that after one try something can no longer help you achieve your goals.
Sometimes that same technique when used in a slightly different fashion, slightly different speed, or slightly different pace can change your results drastically.
Today I’ve made a video to show you an exercise that is beneficial for both strength and cardiovascular fitness. You’ll also see a few variations and some suggestions that will make this a winner and give you something more to add to your workouts.

What Do You Think? March 14th, 2009
“A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.”
-Mahatma Gandhi
We already have the most powerful computer sitting on top of our shoulders. Now all we have to do is program it correctly.
There in lies the struggle. Every day becomes a challenge to not let things that might distract us from our goals get into our heads.
I’ve recently had some questions come in asking about what are some tricks that I use to stay motivated and upbeat. Great question.
I make it an effort to be very single minded when it comes to my goals. Some people say that I’m too intense at times but I don’t know any other way. I don’t believe that you can be wishy, washy about things that really matter to you.
One of the ways that I find is useful to stay on track is to have a very clear picture of what I want. I already see what the end result is and I don’t let distractions steer me away from the goal.
Put simply it’s a matter of staying focused and remembering why you started the journey in the first place. It’s also a good idea to think about how you might feel and look when the thing that you strive for is finally achieved.
Your energy, spirit, and your brain’s capacity are three sure fire tools to put into gear to fearlessly pursue the result that you desire

Getting To The Next Level December 17th, 2008
Progress is often times slow. It can be especially slow after a person has experienced a certain level of success.
It’s usually those with the most persistence and the clearest vision of what they want to accomplish that are able to continue on during these slower periods of growth.
At times progress may seem slow or even non existent but there are changes going on even if not as evident. More importantly there is a commitment and development of strong habit that is also being developed.
Earlier today in my 5:45 am class one of the guys who has been in my local program for almost a year asked a very important question.
He asked what type of goals that he should be striving for now that he feels really good physically and has met many of the goals that he set out to accomplish.
It’s a great question and I told him that there are always changes to the exercises that can be done as well as implementing some new training techniques. Change after all is good for our bodies and our minds.
I also suggested that even though he has achieved many of his goals it’s important to continue on with this program as a foundation for his health and fitness. I went on to say that the results that he has gotten are very real and something that he should be proud of.
Over time I’ve seen all sorts of people wanting to achieve many different fitness and lifestyle goals. It interests me to see how many want the magic cure and immediate results.
I’ve had people ask me how long they need to do something physical. I have to laugh and suggest to them that health and fitness is not something that can be stored up and used whenever you need a hit, but instead must be something that is continuously worked on and refreshed.
There are no magic cures. The only fool proof system that I know of for lifetime health and fitness is one where the person sticks to some type of exercise and changes and adapts it over time.
Pick something that you can work with and that you know will give you results. The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. Find it, stick to it, and be happy with your results.

Let Go Of Past Hurts November 12th, 2008
| No one likes change.Recently I closed one of my martial arts schools.
It was the toughest decision that I’ve had to make in my 30 plus years in the business. Families were hurt and there were many tears, but after struggling with the decision for two years it had to be done. Certainly it was something that I would rather not have had to do and I sincerely apologized for any pain that I caused. Now that I’ve made the decision, it’s time to move on and make the most of it. We can and should learn from our past and the lessons that it teaches us. We should not, however, allow our past to stop us from moving on and realizing our dreams of today and the future. Stuff happens… now what’s the plan? Years ago I listened to a t.v. announcer interview Green Bay Packers wide receiver John Jefferson. Jefferson was wearing sun glasses on a dull, overcast day in Green Bay. The announcer asked, “why do you wear sunglasses on a day when there is no sun.” Jefferson thought for a moment, smiled, and replied, “because the sun never sets on the cool.” What a great reply! Things happen… keep moving…do your best… and keep your chin up and your smile on. It serves you or no one else any purpose to wallow in your own sorrow or the sorrow of others. It’s ok to feel bad for yourself or someone else, but for only a short time. After a short pity party, do yourself and your friends a favor by moving out of the “oh poor me” mode and get on with it. The sun never sets on those who can get through tough times and keep their energy levels and attitude strong. Good things are just around the corner.
P.S. If the sun has set on your fitness program and you need some get up and go, or if you want something new and challenging to add to your current workout schedule then you owe it to yourself to get some ideas at A great workout makes for outstanding energy and attitude and you can find plenty of both at |

2.5 Hours A Week October 8th, 2008
Earlier today I was driving around doing a few errands and the news came on the radio. The news guy said that a recent study conducted by the government said that Americans should be doing 2.5 hours of exercise per week. After I heard that a few things came to mind. One, hurray for the government for doing some research on an important topic. Two, I wonder how many people in America are coming close to doing 2.5 hours of exercise per week.
Later today I took my wonder dog walking partner out for our stroll and I got to thinking about it some more.
You guys all know my take on the importance of movement of some kind everyday to give you energy and lasting health. Much of what I write to you stresses the importance of making a commitment to your health. So here’s what I came up on my walk.
Anything is better than nothing. Even the smallest amount of movement changes you inside and makes you more apt to try more movement in the future. If you take 2.5 hours and divide it by 7 days in the week you come up with just short of 22 minutes per day. If you take 2.5 hours and divide it by 4 days you come up with 37.5 minutes.
Today when I took my buddy Sydney out for our walk we went out for 45 minutes. When I came home I did another 15 minutes at the house. It was easy and I needed it. I need the energy that I get from my workouts to make sure that I can be at the top of my game when I teach others how to be physically fit.
Some people may find it hard to start an exercise program and commit even 22 minutes per day. At the same time once you make the decision to get started on a fitness program of any sorts it’s important that you decide to commit a certain amount of time each week and stick to it.
Time is a big issue for many people and it’s for that specific reason that I’ve put together the 9 Minute Combat Endurance Training workout. Whether you are already working out or need to get started there is something here for everyone. You can use it to add to your already existing workout or you can start slowly on your new routine and before you know it you’ll be flying high. This compact exercise routine will benefit you in core strength, upper body strength, cardiovascular fitness, and flexibility. Be sure to visit the Combat site at www.CombatEnduranceTraining.com
Take time to make the decision to get moving. Your movement will pay big dividends for you in every area of your life.

Big Dog Confidence September 24th, 2008
Years ago I had a Jack Russell terrier. Little dog, big confidence. This dog was afraid of nothing or no one. I hear people talk about dogs being able to smell fear. I can assure you, other dogs never came close to smelling fear in this little dynamo.
Many of you have experienced seeing a little dog who is in charge of a house even when a bigger dog is also part of the mix. It’s funny to watch and it makes me wonder, “hey shorty, don’t you know that big guy over there can clean your clock in an instant if the thought crossed his mind” Well it seems that the thought never crosses the big dogs mind and the little guy or gal remains king or queen of the house
Wouldn’t it be great if people could have that super big confidence. Wouldn’t it be great if all kids could walk tall.
Over the years when I teach young people in martial arts classes I see many different levels of confidence. Some kids are fearless and willing to try most anything while other kids hang back and never take the first step.
Confidence grows when young people learn to overcome challenges. Those challenges can and should be smaller in the beginning but over time they can become extremely challenging. It’s fun to watch kids grow in confidence.
Times are changing. It seems that many kids are spending way too much time doing not much of anything when it comes to being healthy and growing their confidence. One of the absolute best ways to grow confidence is to become active and get moving.
Yesterday when I was working with a group of beginner kids I made sure that I joined them on the floor for some Combat Endurance Training. I told the kids that they owed it to themselves to be strong and healthy and they all could do it. There were lots of smiles and it was good to see kids working on becoming strong and healthy and enjoying it.
Kids want movement. They thrive on it. Sometimes they just don’t know how or what to do and it seems that they need someone to show them. Help the kids in your life or yourself by going to www.CombatEnduranceTraining.com and learning about my Combat Endurance program that is guaranteed to put the smile on a child’s face that you know or on your face too.
Get moving and feel the power and the confidence,

A Special Thanks September 3rd, 2008
I hope that all of you had a great holiday weekend. As you know I just finished my Triple Mega Happiness Sale and many of you bought the Combat Endurance Training product. I appreciate your trust and welcome the chance to help you improve your fitness. It’s very exciting for me being that since September of 2007 I’ve been able to help people all around the world improve their healthy and fitness with this results oriented exercise program.
When I first started talking to my wife about my desire to have my own Internet business she looked at me and in her very objective way said, “Fred, you don’t know how to turn on the computer.” We’ve come a long way since then baby and the fun thing is that I’m learning more every day and helping more and more people in the process. It’s exciting to know that there is a way to reach and help people all around the world.
If you read last week, you know that one of the reasons for the Triple Happiness Sale was that my son was going away to college. That’s not to say that we were celebrating him leaving our home, but we were happy for him being able to set off on his own and make his own life.
So last Thursday we dropped him off at his new home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and both my wife, daughter, and I are happy for him and proud. He’s the oldest of our kids and first one to leave the nest so those of you who have had your kids leave know what we are feeling.
I don’t think it’s sunk in yet that our boy is gone but I’m sure it will some time over the next few weeks and then there will be a time when we will have to realize that he’s on his own now. So far so good and no matter whether we may have some sad days or not we’re all excited for him and know that he will do well.
Even though Kirk is away at college I’m excited about the chance that I will have to hang with my 16 year old daughter Sammie. She’s a hoot and it’s going to be fun to watch her grow. She’s a very strong willed gal who has a tendency to say what’s on her mind. That quality will serve her well but there are also times when her battleship mouth gets here tug boat butt into trouble. It’s going to be fun.
Good luck to all families who have kids starting school. I hope this school year is a year of growth and high energy for all of you.
God bless,
Fred Nicklaus
The Core Strength Doctor
P.S. If you decided not to get some of the Combat Endurance product during the sale you can still go to the website at www.CombatEnduranceTraining.com and check out the program. It’s lightning in a bottle. Get yourself some.

Teachers don’t tell you everything August 4th, 2008
There are many things about the martial arts that appeal to me. Over the past 30 years the one that has proven to be most helpful to me and families in my program is the fact that there are so many challenges that must be overcome. The challenges are both physical and mental and require that you do some searching before you find the answer. Many of the martial arts came from far eastern cultures. In all of these cultures there was a prevalent theme during the practice of martial arts. That theme was
How can this philosophy help young people develop character and strength of will? What is the benefit of giving a student the answer without letting them engage in some form of struggle? Isn’t it true that the individual grows when engaged in struggle? I’m not saying that an instructor shouldn’t help the student or encourage the student, but I am saying that it’s important to allow the student some time on their own to figure out the challenge. A doting instructor or parent simply breeds dependence and uncertainty in the student.
I understand that it’s not easy to watch a loved one go through tough times. I also understand that it does that person absolutely no good to save them from every uncomfortable situation. The other part of the martial arts philosophy that is of value to know is
You Never Forget”
A word of encouragement to all who deal with children. Teach them how to accept struggle as an important part of learning. Let them know that it’s ok to not know all the answers and to look foolish at times. Teach them how to use their God given talents to find their own answers. The strength of the individual is forged in fire not on easy street. Only we who have this knowledge and are strong enough to use it, can give our children this strength and confidence which is forged through struggle.
Challenge breeds strength,
