Making A Difference February 26th, 2010
One of my favorite musicians recently passed away. Teddy Pendergrass passed away after complications from a terrible auto accident that had left him paralyzed.
One of his songs was titled Life Is A Song Worth Singing. Great song, great meaning. Here’s a story about a woman who lived her life to the fullest and helped thousands in the process. A real life hero. Enjoy reading about her. She really deserved the award
Have a great weekend

IN MEMORIAM 64 YEARS LATER
The prize doesn’t always go to the most deserving.
Irena Sendler
There recently was a death of a 98 year-old lady named Irena.
During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the WarsawGhetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist.
She had an ‘ulterior motive’. She KNEW what the Nazi’s plans were for the Jews, (being German.) Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried and she carried in the back of her truck a burlap sack, (for larger kids).
She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.
During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants. She was caught, and the Nazi’s broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely.
Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it and reunited the family. Most had been gassed.
Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.
Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize…she was not selected.
Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.
It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This email is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German and Russian Peoples looking the other way!
Now, more than ever, with Iraq , Iran , and others, claiming the Holocaust to be ‘a myth,’ it’s imperative to make sure the world never forgets, because there are others who would like to do it again.
This email is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide!

Shake My Head In Disbelief February 25th, 2010
Sometimes you see and hear about things that just make you wonder. Over the past few days I’ve come upon some things that made me want to just shake my head and shake somebody.
Here’s a few good rants for you. See whether you agree or disagree.
As you know I’ve spent the last 32 years working with and helping children become physically and mentally stronger and achieve their potential.
I’ve gotta tell you some of these kids face some real uphill battles.
When I watch how kids interact with each other and with authority figures. I can usually tell within the first few minutes what kind of a young person he/she is. You can tell by how they treat their friends, by how they respond to authority, and whether or not they listen and pay attention when people talk to them.
All of the things I look for are practices that have been taught to them by an adult, usually a parent or parents.
It’s hard enough to be a kid. It’s important that they get good information and proper guidance. Some of these kids will struggle forever because of the downright stupid guidance they are getting.
Here’s some examples:
- When a child is doing something that he/she should not be doing, someone please take notice and correct it. Do not be afraid to hurt the child’s feelings. You’ll be hurting much more than that if a child is left to do whatever he/she wants until they are adults and then get absolutely crushed when the real world finally hits them over the head.
- If a child has a long history of not paying attention and just can’t seem to get the information right no matter how many times it’s explained, it might be time to have the child tested for some type of learning challenge. Sure none of us want to feel that our kids might have learning difficulties, but how fare is it to them if they do and we don’t take steps to help them cure the issue.
Kids do not know how to act unless they are taught. Parenting is not a spectator sport. It’s an all the time, get involved and help your kids occupation Rudeness, lack of respect, inappropriate behavior, and entitlement. All of these are things that must be nipped in the bud and not tolerated.
I feel for teachers today.
Many of these people have chosen their profession because they love kids and want to teach them things that will change their lives. It’s a big time sacrifice and the good teachers are to be commended.
So why are so many teachers frustrated and why do many choose to find other fields of work after short times on the job.
What would happen if government would mind their own business and not create ridiculous rules and paperwork for teachers to live up to. Case in point
No Child Left Behind.
Whose bright idea was this. Do you know that we are graduating kids from our high schools who can’t read? How does that qualify as not being left behind. Seems to me that beefing up our graduating statistics is more important than giving kids an education.
How about keeping lawyers off of the playground and make some laws to stop some of them from running around looking for ridiculous cases to try that only jam up our legal system and spend money foolishly
Case in point. Not so long ago I read a news story that told about one set of parents who was taking a 5 year old child to court because that 5 year old had gotten in a fist fight with theirs.
Here’s what should happen. Case comes to court. Judge hears that it’s parents and a lawyer of one 5 year old taking another 5 year old to court for a fight on the playground and judge says:
“This is too ridiculous to try and by the way you stupid parents and stupid lawyer will also be fined $xxxxx for even bringing this in front of me.”
There’s a thought. Hold someone accountable for being stupid and spreading their stupidity around the town.
We live in a strange world. It’s a world where many kids do not respect authority. It’s a world where lack of common sense is common place. It’s a world where people are restricted from doing their best jobs because there are too many dumb rules and regulations stopping them from doing what’s right. It’s a world where some people are afraid to do or say what’s right because they are afraid that they might upset someone who in turn will bring them unneeded legal pains.
The cure for all of this insanity seems simple:
- Say or do something if there’s a wrong being done. Speak up. Take action
- Teach kids how to do the right things by setting an example
- Make laws that make sense
- Reward creativity and resourcefulness and frown on entitlement and stupidity
It’s high time we start making sense and helping our kids and our world come back to the basics.
Common sense makes good sense even though it may not be common. We need a bunch more of it.

Deficits…Budget Cuts…Blah Blah Blah February 18th, 2010
Don’t you just get sick of it. Last year I stopped getting the local newspaper. Why do you suppose. You got it. It’s nothing but a negative mess.
Front page, middle pages, and every other page full of junk.
Seems to me that it would actually help those who read the newspaper and watch the tv news if our media people would make it a point to cover more of the good stuff than the bad stuff. Hmmm…
So here is how it works in my estimation.
Every day someone hears and is fed this ridiculous sky is falling propaganda.
Government does it. School systems do it. Businesses do it.
It’s a constant bombardment of things are bad and the only way to get out of it is to MAKE CUTS. That’s not enough, MAKE MORE CUTS. Soon enough there will be nothing left to cut.
Let me clarify. Sometimes cuts have to be made. Sometimes businesses have to be closed. Sometimes bad things happen.
But here’s the point.
When it’s over MOVE ON.. We’ve all had bad things happen to us. Did it do any of us any good to keep dwelling on the negative? Me thinks it much better to learn from those negative experiences so we don’t do the same dumb things all over again.
It drives me absolutely wild the people who continually try to cram this Doomsday mentality down our throats.
I suggest that those in government, school systems, businesses try this.
Believe that a solution will be found that will make you prosper and start talking about and working on that. Get your people to start talking and thinking about it too. Share the Wealth.
Here’s a hint. The solution may not be found in doing the same old worn out stuff that got you in a mess in the first place.
We really become what we think and talk about. It’s much more productive to think that we and those we are connected with will make some really great things happen.
Cut mentality be damned. Negative thinking be damned.
Turning ourselves, our country, our schools, our businesses around depends on us and how and what we think about and then what we do after we think it. It’s a great feeling to be in control of our own destinies.
Make it a point to listen to and spend time with people and ideas that can lift you up not bring you down. Life is too short and too precious
Get yourself a piece of the good living pie. Lord knows, there’s more than enough for everybody if we only believe.

Gym Class Done Right? August 15th, 2008
Thursday morning I met with our congressman from Wisconsin, Ron Kind. We got together to talk about the importance of teaching young people the value of developing healthy lifestyles. We talked about the value of eating right and exercising and how healthy bodies create healthy minds and healthy self images.
It was a very good meeting and Congressman Kind struck me as a very informed, very concerned person. I congratulated him on his interest in helping young people become their best by helping them to realize the value of movement in their lives.
The congressman mentioned some statistics and one of the scariest ones was when he said during the teenage years many young people do less and less physical because at that time many of the school curriculums do not include P.E. as mandatory in their curriculums. I came to find out that some of the schools in my own state no longer make it mandatory for kids to take part in some type of fitness classes.
Be that as it may, the responsibility of making our kids healthy certainly should not fall fully on teachers. It seems that over time teachers have been asked to teach values, feed, and even teach our kids about health and healthy lifestyles.
I think it’s important to put responsibility where it belongs. That responsibility belongs on parents. Sure teachers and schools can help with it, but it’s up to us moms and dads to help our kids understand the value of healthy eating and exercise. The best way that we can do that is to model it ourselves. Kids really do watch and listen to what we say.
I’ve met many very good and concerned P.E. teachers who would like to do so much more to teach healthy lifestyles to their students. Here’s the problem. Some of the curriculums that have been created for them are as far away from teaching healthy lifestyles as you can get. First of all we should realize that health doesn’t necessarily mean chasing a ball. Health means teaching kids how to take care of their bodies and minds for a lifetime by teaching them skills that they can actually implement and enjoy.
How about letting people who actually understand health make some of the rules and curriculums? Health rules should not be made by someone or some committee that doesn’t know a things about exercise, can’t bend over to tie their shoes, and doesn’t really give a damn about their own health or anyone else’s. If the system doesn’t work it may be time to fix it for the good of our young people and their chance for better health and life.
Congressman Kind had some great ideas today. Ways to help all kids learn and realize the value and importance of taking care of their health. He was excited about what I’m doing with the Combat Endurance program in schools. He said that he would take a close look at the material that I presented to him and that he would let me know how things come along and how I might help when things get to that point. I felt that it wasn’t just political double talk but the talk of a person that was genuine in his concern.
I wish him well in his quest to find people and programs that can help kids experience their best health.
