Too Sore To Move May 13th, 2010
Have you ever tried a new workout program and did it as hard as you could on the very first day? Did you feel muscles you didn’t know you had over the next few days?
A while back I invited a friend to come to one of my local Combat classes. This person was in his early 30’s, former collegiate wrestler, current weight lifter, and very health conscious and took great care of himself.
Very strong and very healthy.
Class started and I’m watching my friend and he’s giving it all he’s got. After all that’s how he always worked out.
After class he stopped over to talk and I said that he might feel a bit sore over the next few days. He said that he was still staying quite active and after his workouts he took supplements to speed up the muscle recovery and cut down on any soreness.
He told me that he thought he was going to be fine. I told him that I hoped he was right and let me know how he felt in a few days.
Two days later I got a phone call. It was my young, athletic friend.
He said, ” I just had to call you and tell you this. My wife took me to the grocery store and I was so sore that I had to hang onto the grocery cart just to get up and down the aisles. I’ve never been so sore in my life.”
He went on to say that even though he considered himself a very fit and in shape person that my class showed him that he really was WEAK in the core of his body. He said that he was glad that he now understood the work that he had to do.
Are you interested in making your core stronger? You don’t have to be a 30 year old former wrestler in order to make your core stronger.
Anyone of any age can do it. A stronger core means effortless movement, less body aches and pain, and a stronger, more efficient body.
You can get it all with either my Intermediate or Advanced training programs.
Go here to get your copy of either program today.

Lower Back Exercises to Add Lower Back Strength January 26th, 2010
Accountability November 13th, 2009
Look at the history of the world’s greatest democracies and you’ll find that almost all of them came to the point of self destruction right around 200 years.
Seems that it was at the 200 year mark that the people of those respective nations came to the conclusion that government was supposed to run their lives and provide for them.
We’re a bit past that mark but it strikes me that a whole bunch of things are lining up that might cause us to go down the same path.
I hear so much today about how government is going to create a plan that will fix everything. Please note- this is not a comment about our political parties in any way. It’s more a comment about the responsibility of the individual.
No country will pick itself up unless the individuals of that country take responsibility for themselves, do what needs to get done to make their lives better, and learn to live within their means.
No set of rules, no government, and no hand out will make things any different until the individual accepts responsibility for their own lives and chooses the contribute in some worthwhile fashion.
A friend sent this email to me yesterday and I believe it speaks a valuable truth.
Here it is:
——-
This was a “letter to the editor”
In August 29th, Jackson , MS newspaper.
Dear Sirs:
“During my last night’s shift in the ER, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient with a shiny new gold tooth, multiple elaborate tattoos, a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and a new cellular telephone equipped with her favorite R&B tune for a ringtone.
Glancing over the chart, one could not help noticing her payer status: Medicaid.
She smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and, somehow, still has money to buy beer. And our Congress expects me to pay for this woman’s health care?
Our nation’s health care crisis is not a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. It is a crisis of culture – a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on vices while refusing to take care of one’s self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. A culture that thinks “I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me.”
Life is really not that hard. Most of us reap what we sow. Don’t you agree?

Battered and Bruised November 2nd, 2009
It’s one of the hardest things for a Green Bay Packer fan to take. Getting whipped not once, but twice, by our border rivals the Minnesota Vikings.
It always takes a few days for the sting of that to go away. My team’s weaknesses were exposed once again and our former 40 year old leader proceeded to dismantle us for the second time in less than a month.
That’s the bad news. The good news is something has changed for the better concerning what I told you about 3 ? months ago. It was bad news at the time but it served to motivate me to make some changes.
Today I went in for a blood test to check my cholesterol levels and my thyroid levels. Back in July my cholesterol levels were over 200 and my doctor suggested that I up my Lipitor dose.
I told him, no thanks, I’m going to cut back on my cheese intake and take off a few unneeded lbs and see what happens.
I got after it pretty good and the main things I did was to
- Not eat so much before bedtime
- Cut back on cheese and some of my ice cream snacks
- I also made it a point to burn off more calories than I was taking in by exercising regularly
My cholesterol level today was 154 and the doc was happy. He said that within only a 3 month time I was able to make significant steps towards a healthier me. He also told me that many people hear the message of take off a few lbs and cut back on certain foods but few take the advice.
I’m glad that I was able to drop my cholesterol down. It means I will not have to take more medication to keep my body doing what I would like to think it can mostly do on it’s own with just a little monitoring from me.
Now that I’ve controlled my cholesterol I’ll have to look closer at some anti-depressants if I continue to spend my Sunday afternoons watching my on again off again Packers

Lessons From Baseball October 21st, 2009
There are just too many games during the year. You can watch baseball every night if you want and the games are just too long.
I don’t watch much baseball during the season but I enjoy watching during the playoffs. This year has been the same.
It seems that the Yankees and the Phillies are moving towards a head on collision in the World Series. I think it will be a classic.
So why is watching baseball different during the playoffs?
It’s the intensity.
Last night I watched as C.C. Sabathia mowed down the Angel hitters. The guy’s a winner. I sure wish the Brewers could have kept him.
He’s 6′8″ tall and must go close to 300 lbs. He’s a monster of a man and a monster of a performer. As the game went on his fastball went from 92-93 to 95-96. He’s getting stronger the longer the game goes.
I would just like to stand in the batter’s box one time and see what it feels like to have someone throw a 96 mile an hour fastball past my bat. My chances of hitting it would be just as good with eyes closed or open.
So back to the intensity. It’s all about intensity. Champions can crank it up when they need to. Those who have been there before know what it takes.
Intensity is both mental and physical and the more you practice the better you get and the better your results get.
How do you learn intensity? You put yourself in the arena and feel some of the pain that comes with learning anything. You can get through the pain because you’re looking for the accomplishment and pleasure that awaits on the other side.
It’s not easy, but it’s sure worth it. Life is meant to be lived. Life is meant to be a passionate undertaking that makes you fall on your face more than just once.
The real treasures go to those who know how to learn from their falls and pick themselves up after each fall.
It’s in the rising up again that one develops passion and intensity.

Confession…My Doctor Scared Me July 20th, 2009
Everybody needs to get shocked sometimes. It makes us think and hopefully moves us onto better things. I got such a shock last Monday.
That day I got a call from my doctor. I had just had a blood test done to check my cholesterol levels. I battle high cholesterol and a slow thyroid. I don’t like the idea of taking medication for anything but I take one pill a day for each condition.
My doctor told me that my bad cholesterol level was at 149. He wants it to be below 100. He wanted me to up the level of Lipitor that I was taking from 10 mg. to 20 mg.
I thought about what he told me for a while and said that I did not want to take more medicine. I went on to say that my plan was to continue with my exercise routine and also keep a real close eye on what I eat.
Here’s where the confession comes in.
I love to eat. If I didn’t exercise I might be over 300 lbs. Even though I exercise religiously I need to make a few eating changes. Here are some of the things that I need to work on.
I love cheese. Lots of it. I am after all a Cheesehead. I’ve had only two small cheese sticks since last Monday
I have a sweet tooth. My wife hides cookies from me after she bakes them because she knows that I am painfully low on self discipline when it comes to chocolate chip cookies.
Since last Monday the only sweets that I’ve had are some chocolate Macadamia nuts and a few fudge stripe cookies.
I love food in general and it’s always been my thought that if I gain a few pounds I’ll sweat it off later that day or next.
When I talked to my doctor I told him that I was planning to take off some weight. Weight loss has always been an easy thing for me, but it gets harder as I age. My greatest weight loss/weight gain story came back on the weekend of one of my full contact karate fights in 1980.
I weighed in on Friday night at 7 pm at a very slender 164 lbs. By Sunday afternoon at 2 pm I weighed in at 192lbs. You see, I could take it off and put it on almost at will. After some of my workouts when I was heavily engaged in competition I could lose 7-8 lbs. in one workout.
Enough about how it used to be. It’s not like that anymore. I need to face reality and make some changes.
Recently my weight has been fluctuating from 202- 205 lbs. Even though I still pride myself in taking care of myself and being in shape, I don’t need to carry around that much weight.
I told the doc that I was planning on getting to 195 or even 190. I’m not sure how low I should go because on a recent trip to a nutritionist he told me that he would not go below 195 because I would lose too much muscle. We’ll see how it goes.
I’ve decided to cut way back on the things that are crossing past my gums. I wanted to share some of my struggles with you because I’ve gotten many emails in the past few months telling me about struggles with weight that other people are having.
I wrote this email to let you know that I’m human too. Even though I know quite a bit about exercise and proper diet sometimes I think that the rules don’t apply to me and I can do whatever I please.
Now that I’ve had my wake-up call and warning I’m committed to making some nutritional changes. I’m excited about what I’m planning to do to eat healthy and lose some extra lbs.
If losing weight is something that you struggle with I’d encourage you to read some of the upcoming emails that I send your way. I’m going to let you know about my progress and tell you about some of the things that I’m doing diet and exercise wise that can help you too.
If you miss an email be sure to go to the blog at www.combatendurancetraining.com/DailyNews
to see it at a later date.
If you’re looking for a great way to begin your exercise routine be sure to go to www.combatendurancetraining.com/j09 to get your FREE gift of my 7 minute Combat workout.
Watch tomorrow as I go into some of the things that are working well for me and some of the things that I’m thinking that are helping me lose this extra weight. As of this morning I was 198.8 lbs. If all goes well I should hit the 195 mark by tomorrow

Little Things (Big Difference) March 20th, 2009
Have you ever heard someone say, “I’ve done that before and it didn’t work for me” ?
In most cases if people try something and it doesn’t work they often times give up.
One short of expected result does not mean that a technique or program is not good.
There are so many variables that can affect an outcome. It’s a mistake to believe that after one try something can no longer help you achieve your goals.
Sometimes that same technique when used in a slightly different fashion, slightly different speed, or slightly different pace can change your results drastically.
Today I’ve made a video to show you an exercise that is beneficial for both strength and cardiovascular fitness. You’ll also see a few variations and some suggestions that will make this a winner and give you something more to add to your workouts.

Have fun and let me know how it goes.

Strong Body, Strong Mind February 11th, 2009
It’s hard to watch people struggle.
Many of the struggles could be avoided with a bit of work and commitment
This past weekend I had a chance to break out my new snowshoes. It was the first time that I had worn them and I really enjoyed it.
The part that I really enjoyed was being able to go uphill with the shoes on. It wasn’t running but it was a pretty fast shuffle.
Good to get the heart going Uphill training is a great way to accelerate your heart rate and build strength and endurance. Besides, it’s not as hard on the body as long distance running.
I was in a meeting and we talked about the mind-body connection.
We were talking about how excited we were about the Combat Endurance Training product and how it’s grown in a very short period of time.
The conversation turned to the fact that a person who commits to having a healthy body has a much better chance of having other things in their life fall into place. Some examples that were cited were
1. More energy for work and play
2. More productivity in the work environment
3. Healthy attitude and outlook
4. Ability to press on when things get tough
In short, taking care of ourselves gives us a step up with any activity that we engage in. It only makes sense. Taking care of ourselves pays big time dividends. It’s never too late to start even if a person hasn’t done anything for a while.
In keeping with the theme of healthy body-healthy mind something else came to mind as I was sending out some envelopes to some of my customers this weekend.
Much of our success in life has to do with our attitude. A while back the smiley yellow face was something that you could see everywhere.
As I was finishing some of my outgoing mail I decided to start drawing a smiley red face. Red because the yellow is already so popular and red because the color is all about energy and intensity.
So I thought to start putting the smiley red face on all of my future mailings and in my emails. You may or may not think it’s worth anything, but my feeling is that the visuals that we get everyday about the value of a strong spirit and energy all make a difference. So look for the smiley red guy from things that you get from me.
Wishing you well with your strong body and mind,

Your Health Matters December 3rd, 2008
Sometimes you just know that you’ve got something really good. I’ve known the feeling in my martial arts schools for over 30 years.
It’s the feeling you get from knowing that what you teach people changes their lives for the better.
Kids and adults both have grown tremendously because of my martial arts programs. They’ve accepted and overcome challenges and raised their expectations in order to experience levels of growth and success that they would have thought unimaginable when they first started.
I’ve always been a big believer in the mind, body, spirit connection. It’s proven to be a winning formula for me.
Then I stumbled upon some exceptional luck.
A good friend gave me an outstanding workout. It was a workout that no one but the Special Forces had used. I’ve turned it into a product that has been helping people all over the world experience exciting new levels of strength, health, and fitness.
Combat Endurance Training is starting to develop quite a following nationally and internationally. Many of you have already experienced it’s benefits. Watch out Oprah, here we come. Trust me the people at Oprah will be getting our media materials.
A program that works in as little as 7 or 9 minutes a day. A huge return on your health and energy in only 7 or 9 minutes a day. Not a bad investment for that little time.
This is a gift that I’m planning on continuing to share with anyone who has a desire to improve their health and fitness.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a person who does not work out, start slowly. Either the 7 or 9 minute workout is a great way to get your momentum going. If you’re a person who is already in good shape but you want a challenge, the intermediate and advanced programs will put it on ya.
If you’re a skeptic and think that any of this is a load of bull, then give it a try and get ready to eat some humble pie. Here’s a little challenge for anyone who thinks that Combat Endurance isn’t for real.
Get yourself the intermediate or advanced DVD and get after it at the same speed that I lead you through the workouts. If you still think it’s not worth it’s weight in gold then I’ll be happy to give you your money back.
Just drop me a line at FredNicklaus@CombatEnduranceTraining.com, Subject- combat challenge. I don’t plan on getting any emails. Why would I? It works.
To your best health.
Fred Nicklaus
The Core Strength Doctor
P.S. When I tell you that Combat Endurance Training can change your life, I mean it. Your health and energy is something that you should take the best care of. It’s never too late and you’re always able to learn something new that can give you a tremendous boost. This is it. Go to www.CombatEnduranceTraining.com/products.html.
