The Feel Of Failure

What does it feel like. Last week in one of our staff meetings I asked the staff what failure felt like. I suggested that they recall a situation in their past where they were scared beyond movement as they were in the middle of making a mistake.

I asked them to recall what that felt like in order that they might explain what it felt like to their students and teach them how to overcome the feeling. A few of the guys gave answers and I continued to ask, what did it feel like.

What did your body feel like when your were going through this. Did you sweat. Was there a knot in your stomach. Were you feeling sick to your stomach. What did it feel like.

Be aware so you can teach yourself and your students how to deal effectively with these feelings.

Everyone’s been there but everyone handles fear and failure differently.

Overcoming fear starts with belief. A belief that you have the skills to do whatever it is that you have chosen to overcome. Some of your belief can come from the encouragement of family, friends, and mentors.

In the end your final belief must come from within yourself. Whether you want to do well at your job, become a better parent, be a better student, learn a new skill that would really motivate you, or improve your health and fitness.

It all starts inside. What kind of self talk are you giving yourself on a consistent basis. What kind of mental pictures are you spending time looking at. Do you believe in your potential.

Along with self talk and belief in your own abilities there is another quality that most winners and those who take themselves to another level possess. That quality is persistence.

It’s not about the skills that you were born with, the group of people you hang around with, or what anyone else has decided that you are going to become . It’s all about you’re willingness to work at and in turn become it.

In many cases the person who practices persistence will eventually find the skills needed to get him/her to the next level of exciting performance and living.

It’s important to keep the momentum moving in the right direction.
